Chinese immigrants working on the Southern Pacific Railroad.
The Chinese's arrival on May 19, 1881 changed El Paso. They helped make the Southern Pacific Railroad reach El Paso first, causing hundreds of more people to move to El Paso. The citizens of El Paso tried to convert them to American culture, but the immigrants didn’t want to associate with change. Most of the citizens hated the Chinese and wanted them gone. However, they stayed in El Paso, and faced discrimination.
Their EXPLORATION was an ODYSSEY where they ENCOUNTERED prejudice in America, a FRONTIER providing them with opportunities, because they were a DIVERSITY that became a SYSTEM when times were tough.
